やっぱり
Vocabulary
- Learned that やっぱり1 is also sometimes spoken as やはり, which I've certainly heard before as a syllable cluster but didn't realize was the same thing.
- It's ridiculous that 今度2 can express both "this time" and "next time"
- I've heard すごい pronounced more like "su/ng/oi" a couple of times now, sort of like how ง is pronounced in Thai. Via Reddit3, it seems like sometimes Japanese people do pronounce /g/ as /ng/.
Immersion
I started watching an LP of The Closing Shift, a game I actually was aware of since the creator makes a bunch of vignette-style games and I've played another one of them. I really enjoyed this part of the first episode4 where a foreigner walks into the coffee shop the game character works at and the LPers had to voice-act the situation of a foreigner who does speak some Japanese to a native.
